A burst water main 'in the middle of nowhere' has resulted in over 30,000 homes in Hastings and St Leonards being without water over the bank holiday weekend.
Southern Water has apologised to residents following the burst of a water main on Thursday, that has consequently cut off the water supply for thousands of homes in the south east, as well as care homes and some schools.
Engineers reportedly had to cut down over 50 trees in order to reach the area where the main had burst.
In an update posted on their website at 1.30pm this afternoon (May 3) they said they had found the burst pipe, located 'deep in woodland,' which is 'making it difficult for crews and our machinery to reach it'.
The statement said:
"Unfortunately, due to the complex nature of the repair, and the time it takes to restart our network, we do expect this incident to into the weekend. We are very sorry for this disruption and will keep customers informed via our website and social media channels, as well as text messages and emails direct to impacted households.
"If you are a vulnerable customer, or need access to water for medical reasons, and have not received a water delivery, please call 0330 303 0386".
Bottled water stations can be found at ASDA in St Leonards, Tesco on Church Wood Drive, St Leonards and Sea Road in Hastings.
Residents have been informed that they will likely not have their water turned back on until Tuesday, May 7.
