24-Hour Charity Croquet Marathon In Eastbourne Today

Compton Croquet Club will host a 24-hour croquet marathon today, in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

The club is urging Eastbourne residents to turn up to play from midday and help raise money for life saving research, while celebrating the 60th anniversary of the charity.

Members and non-members can play and the club is asking that every participant raises a minimum of £20 towards the fundraising target to make sure that Eastbourne plays its full part in achieving the target.

The Croquet Association has chosen the nation’s heart charity as their charity this year to help raise vital funds and celebrate their anniversary.

This is the first time that Compton Croquet Club has held the fundraiser and the money raised will go towards the BHF’s research to help prevent and treat heart and circulatory disease.

Speaking ahead of the event, Pete ‘The Hoop Meister’ Dowd, England International and Event Organiser at Compton said:

“We’re really looking forward to the 24 hour croquet marathon! It’s set to be a fantastic 24 hours and we hope to see lots of people coming together to help club members beat heartbreak forever.

"We have the Mayor of Eastbourne attending to honour us by running the first hoop on Saturday 25th at noon and to make sure Eastbourne plays its part in supporting this wonderful event.

"We are hoping to raise funds for the BHF’s life saving research, which will help make a difference to the lives of those fighting a daily battle with heart conditions.”

Vicki Carswell, BHF Fundraising Manager, said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to The Croquet Association for their amazing support.

"The money raised helps fund ground-breaking discoveries and identify new treatments that could help save more people from the devastating effects of heart disease.”
