As police investigate a sexual attack on a girl aged 17 in Brighton's Pavilion Gardens, officers have now charged a second person.

The incident allegedly took place just before midnight on June 2nd.

Two males were detained, after what police claimed was a fast start to their enquiries.

One of them, Ashley Lewis, 35, of Gloucester Gardens, London W2, has already been charged with sexual assault and theft of personal items including a bag, a bank card and mobile phone, belonging to the alleged victim.

He was earlier remanded in custody to appear before Lewes Crown Court on 19 July.

A boy aged 17, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on suspicion of rape.

Though, after interviews, he was released on conditional bail pending further enquiries, he now faces charges.

He is formally accused of rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault.

He appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court on 6 July and is now on court bail, also due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 19 July.
