The annual Children's Parade will kick off the start of the Brighton Festival this weekend, with around 5,000 of the city's children parading through the streets alongside parents and teachers.

The theme for this year's colourful parade is Rebuilding and Hope, 'celebrating the strength and resilience of our communities, and what we can achieve when we listen and work together'.

The festival is put together by Same Sky for the Brighton Festival. They choreograph the event and help with the creation of the magnificent sculptures that will be paraded through the streets.

The parade will start in Jubilee Street then:

  • cross Church Street
  • New Road
  • North Street
  • East Street
  • cross Grand Junction Road (A259)
  • South Esplanade
  • Madeira Drive

Some of the roads around Brighton will be closed from 9am - North Road will be closed to traffic from 10.15am.

Bus route changes: Between 10.15am and 12.45pm (on the parade day) there will be no buses serving the section of route between the Old Steine and Churchill Square.
