Brighton Beach Rapist Sentenced

A man who raped an 18-year-old woman on the beach at Brighton has been sentenced.

Abdenour Ben Ali, 30, a plumber, of Sheepcote Road, Harrow, in Middlesex assaulted the woman near Kings Road Arches in September 2019, after he'd befriended her at a nearby nightclub.

Staff from the nightclub saw the assault and were able to intervene and hold him until police arrived.

The victim was then taken to hospital and supported by specialist officers.

Ben Ali was sentenced to nine years at Hove Crown Court last Wednesday, July 14.

He will also be a registered sex offender indefinitely.

Detective Constable Tom Perry of the Brighton & Hove Safeguarding Investigations Unit said:

"The four door staff, who were commended in court at the end of the trial by Judge Janet Waddicor, spotted what was happening, restrained Ben Ali and called police.

"Ben Ali had met the woman in the club shortly beforehand and some time conversation she had gone with him to the adjacent beach area where he assaulted her.

"Fortunately alert door staff took action and now Ben Ali, who had taken advantage of her vulnerability, has faced justice."
