Burgess Hill Man Found Not Guilty Of Attempted Murder

A man has been found not guilty of attempted murder following an incident in Burgess Hill where one man drove at another.

At around midday on August 24th of last year, police were called to an altercation between two men at the junction of Cants Lane and Wyvern Way.

Witnesses say one of the men got back into his car and drove at the other, colliding with him and then hitting a road sign.

The suspect then left his car and assaulted the victim before getting back in his car and driving off.

The victim, a man in his 40s, suffered minor injuries.

The vehicle was located in Cants Lane and the suspect was located and arrested by officers nearby.

Fifty-four-year-old Arthur McGhie of Cants Lane in Burgess Hill was found not guilty of attempted murder at Hove Crown Court on Friday, June 11th.

He was found guilty by a jury of assaulting an emergency worker and previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, attempted grievous bodily harm and causing actual bodily harm to an emergency worker.

He's been remanded in custody and will be sentenced in September.

DS Mark Buckley said:

"This has been a lengthy investigation, which has had a significant impact on those involved.

"We'd like to thank the victim for their bravery and to the witnesses who have assisted with our enquiries.

"We are thankful of the careful consideration of the evidence given by the members of the public who served on the jury and we respect their verdict.

"We hope that these proceedings help to provide the victim with some closure on what has been a very traumatic incident."
