Covid-19: Eastbourne Gym Owner Fined And Hastings Woman Charged

A business owner in Eastbourne has been fined £2,000 and a woman has been charged for breaching Covid-19 regulations on Wednesday (January 6).

Police and East Sussex Trading Standards attended the gym in the Hampden Park area to issue the fine.

It's after a £1,000 was previously issued to the establishment by Sussex Police for the same reason in November 2020.

A woman in St Leonards was also charged with failling to comply with a direction in relation to events / gatherings in England in order to control Coronavirus on Wednesday.

The charge came after police were notified of a group of people gathering daily to exercise together on St Leonards seafront.

Officers attempted to engage with the group, explaining that the government’s regulations state exercise is permitted outdoors but only with those from your household or one other person from outside of your household.

However, the engagement was not successful, with the group failing to comply with requests to move on and cease the gathering.

Deborah Cutting, 54, from Hastings, was arrested and charged.

She will appear before Hastings Magistrates’ Court on February 3.
