End Of Line For West Sussex Free Senior Railcards

West Sussex: Senior Railcard Changes (Photo: Britain's Oldest Electric Train, Still In Daily Use In Sussex)

Senior citizens in West Sussex will soon lose the ability to choose to receive a free Senior Railcard as an alternative to a bus pass.

That's according to West Sussex County Council, who've said the change will take place on October 31.

Applications for the Senior Railcard will still be accepted until that date.

A County Hall official said:

"If you currently hold a Senior Railcard provided by West Sussex County Council and decide not to renew it before the end of October, you can use the railcard until it expires.

"We will contact you about how to take up your free bus pass entitlement.

"There are no changes to the free Disabled Person's Railcard alternative to the Disabled Person's Bus Pass, which will remain as an option for anyone with a qualifying disability."

The change in County Council policy does not affect the railway companies' own schemes, where Senior Railcard discount cards for purchase will continue to be available.
