Father And Children Cut Off By Tide Among Those Rescued By Selsey Lifeboat

A father and his children are among those who who were rescued by Selsey RNLI on Sunday (13).

The coastguard received several emergency calls reporting people stranded on Kirk Arrow shingle bank on the west side of Selsey Bill, at around 3.22pm.

The Selsey inshire lifeboat (ILB) was alerted and launched at around 3.30pm.

After launching they were updated that a paddle boarder, who turned out to be the father of two children stranded on the bank, was in trouble.

Lifeboat crew spotted both the people on Kirk Arrow and the paddleboard, then a person in the water.

The ILB first recovered to the man struggling in the water.

After discovering the man's children were stranded on Kirk Arrow, the helmsman decided to continue to the shingle bank with the man on board.

The two children were recovered and transported bank to the beach with their father.

Another four adults who had swam and paddleboarded out to the bank to help the children remained on the bank.

The ILB returned to rescue the remaining adults and their board.

The incident was wrapped up and crew were back at the station by 4pm.
