Crews were called last night (Tuesday 6 April) to the workshop in Mackie Avenue.
People living in the area were urged to keep windows and doors closed as crews dealt with the fire.
It took several hours for the road to reopen.
Firefighters thanked members of the public that helped initial crews with carrying hoses to the hydrant. They said:
"Quick initial actions from crews prevented the fire spreading to neighbouring properties."
There are no reports of any injuries.
We were called to an incident involving a fire in a domestic garage on Mackie Avenue, Hassocks at 5:30pm this evening.

Three fire engines are currently on the scene.
