Gatwick Welcomes Government Quarantine Easing

Gatwick Airport: safety precautions

As the government prepares to release a list of nations exempt from English quarantine rules, Gatwick Airport bosses say they're pleased: but sounded a warning about the state of the industry as a whole.

It's after reports this morning (July 3) that passengers from at least 50 countries are to be subject to less strict quarantine measures than the rest of the world, after arriving in England.

Gatwick, in which French concessions and construction company Vinci has a controlling stake, said:

"We welcome news that people will soon be able to fly into Gatwick from a range of countries without needing to self-isolate."

Airport management claimed the shift in policy could give a "significant boost" to consumer confidence.

A spokesperson went on to say:

"It sends a very clear message that it is now safe to take summer holidays abroad, visit family and friends and take international business trips again."

Measures continue in airport premises to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

They include asking passengers to bring and wear their own face coverings, if it is possible to use them, at all points in the airport.

However, today's statement included a warning:

"The aviation industry has a long way to go to in its recovery from this pandemic.

"However today’s news will hopefully mark the start of a turning point.”
