Hunt Heats Up For Suspected Chichester Handbag Thief

A man and woman police wish to identify after a handbag theft in Chichester

A large quantity of cash was lost when a thief reportedly stole a handbag from a shopper in a Chichester supermarket — and now there's new CCTV that could identify the culprit and an accomplice.

According to Sussex Police, the woman in this image (right) was suspected to have been seen taking the handbag from where a customer of Tesco Express in Fishbourne Road East had accidentally left it.

The suspect was accompanied by the man on the left.

At about 1.10pm on Sunday 4 July a local woman used a self-service checkout, forgetting to take her belongings with her.

As well as cash, the handbag carried personal items.

Within minutes, the victim realised what had happened and went straight back to the shop but the handbag had already disappeared.

The female suspect is described by police as white, in her mid twenties, in red clothing, with dark hair worn in a bun, and appeared to be pregnant.

The man with her is described as white, in his late twenties, wearing a grey/green t-shirt, hat and face mask.

PC Jack Bowry said:

"This was an opportunist theft and we are sure someone will recognise this pair.

"If you can help please contact us either online or by calling 101, quoting serial 722 of 04/07.
