Man Sentenced After Attacking Officer At Gatwick Airport

A man from Crawley who assaulted a police officer at Gatwick Airport after being told to leave has been given a Community Protection Notice (CPN).

Police said Louis Felicite, of Iveagh Close, admitted assaulting PC Stuart Halfpenny by beating, and to being in the airport in breach of a written prohibition notice from management.

The 26-year-old was spotted at a closed seating area in the arrivals area in Gatwick's South Terminal on December 17, despite having received a written notice under airport byelaws banning him from the area, for being a persistent nuisance to staff and passengers.

Felicite was arrested by the officer after refusing to leave.

After kicking the officer's leg, Felicite was restrained for some time to 'calm down' before being taken to custody.

He pleaded guilty at Crawley Magistrates' Court on December 18, and was handed a 12-month CPN, prohibiting him from entering Gatwick Airport.

He was also fined a total of £284.

Breaching the CPN could result in the court issuing a Criminal Behaviour Order.

Sergeant Ian Hatcher said:

"This man has been a persistent nuisance to staff and passengers in public areas of the airport over the course of the past year.

"He has been coming here on multiple occasions, without any legitimate reason."
