The town is set to have its own "big wheel" from next Thursday (July 9).

According to borough councillors, the 35-meter-high "Eastbourne Eye" should be ready to welcome riders in its glass pods from 11 in the morning.

The local authority has this week been promoting potential "panoramic views" across the town from the attraction's family-sized glass pods, which are set to operate for a time in the summer.

The borough councillors responsible for enterprise and tourism, Margaret Bannister, said:

"This is a fantastic addition to Eastbourne's seafront this summer season and offers a unique perspective of our special town.

With social distancing remaining a part of daily life, the individual glass pods will be restricted to one household at a time and cleaned after every use, allowing for some safe, family fun.

As government lockdown restrictions begin to relax, we are thrilled that we have been able to add socially distanced events to Eastbourne's events calendar, ensuring the appropriate safety measures are in place."

Socially distanced queuing systems will be in place and the use of hand sanitizer before and after entering the pods is compulsory for each rider.

According to the local authority, tickets are priced at £5 per adult and £4 per child under 1.4 metres, with family tickets at £15 for 2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children.

All tickets can be purchased on site, with contactless payments encouraged.

The borough council added that the attraction will be open from 9 July - 2 August and available for 10 minute rides from 11am-8pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am-9pm Friday to Saturday.
