Pagham Pram Race Still Running Every Boxing Day

Pagham Pram Race was started in 1946 and will be taking place again on Boxing Day this year. The Pagham Pram Race was founded by a group of demobbed servicemen, who decided to race with one pushing a pram and the other dressed as a baby in it. The challenge was to drink a pint at all the village pubs and the prize a Christmas fruit cake. Since then, the race has taken place every Boxing Day whatever the weather and has grown in popularity, with more than 60 entrants last year. Last year the event gave out more than £15,000 to local charities and organisations and welcomed around 6,000 spectators. The three-mile route starts at the mill on Pagham Road and passes The Bear, The Lamb and The Beach Cafe before finishing at The Lamb car park. Recently appointed Vice President of the Pagham Pram Race Tim Holland said: “This fun event has really become ‘Star Studded’ over the years and we have had spectacular entrants from The Wizard of Oz to Star Wars, but who will this year’s Star be?” Thanks to sponsors, entrants and spectators we’ve raised many, many thousands of pounds for local good causes over the years." Anyone can enter the race – they just need to be over the age of 18. The race starts at 11am. To find out more visist the website.
