Playgrounds In Eastbourne To Reopen Tomorrow (Saturday)

Childrens' play areas in Eastbourne are to reopen from Saturday (July 4) in line with government guidance on easing lockdown measures. 

Eastbourne Borough Council's Neighbourhood First team is working hard to carry out safety inspections and essential maintenance ahead of their reopening.

It comes as play areas in Arun are also set to reopen - as previously reported by More Radio.

Children should not use them while they are still closed and important checks are taking place. 

Councillor David Tutt, Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, said:

"I'm very pleased that families will be enjoying our play parks again. 

"They are great places for children to exercise and have fun outdoors, set within the many beautiful parks and gardens Eastbourne offers." 

Parents are advised that once playgrounds reopen, they are responsible for their children's hand hygiene, and good practice such as applying sanitiser before and after using the equipment is recommended. 

Signs will be displayed in playgrounds as a reminder of this and the importance of following social distancing. 

Councillor Tutt added:

"We know it has been a long time for families to go without play areas, especially for those with limited outdoor space to play, and it is thanks to the vast majority of people keeping to guidelines that they are reopening. 

"We do ask that people continue to be sensible and social distance as well as practice good hand hygiene, so that we prevent the spread of Covid-19. We must not let our guard down to the very real threat of covonavirus." 

All public toilets have now reopened. 

The facilities are open usual summertime hours, from 8am to 7pm, and are cleaned twice daily. 

The only exception to this are toilets on the Wish Tower slopes and at the Redoubt - these had been shut for some time before the pandemic and will remain closed for the foreseeable future. 

People using the toilets are asked to follow social distancing guidelines and requested to wash their hands after using the facilities.
