Police Warn Of Scammers In Brighton & Hove

Police are warning residents in Brighton & Hove of a scam in which two men posing as builders claim to have found problems in people's lofts.

The pair have been offering services, later telling residents that they've found dead pigeons or leaks in the attic.

They then offer to fix the problem for payment.

Officers have been made aware of several recent incidents and have warned residents to be on alert.

Police want to remind people to be vigilant about unexpected contact from anyone offering unsolicited services:

  • Always ask to check their ID and if you’re not happy, don’t engage with them.
  • Never give your bank details or transfer money to those you don’t know or trust, and never give your PIN number or other sensitive information to strangers.
  • If you are in doubt about a situation, call police or a trusted friend or relative for advice.
  • If something doesn’t sound right, don’t feel pressured to make a snap decision on matters relating to your finances.
  • Take the time to do some research and trust your instincts.
