Storm Evert To Whip Across Sussex On Friday

Click on the picture, above, to watch one prediction of how Storm Evert will blow across Sussex on Friday (July 30) but not before causing worse trouble in the West Country.

Coastal gales are being forecast for Friday from mid-morning onwards, as the latest swirling low pressure area to arrive makes its way from the Atlantic.

According to the Met Office, Storm Evert could bring gusts of 55 mph in the most exposed parts of the Sussex coast and the South Downs.

Elsewhere, its winds should reach 40 to 50 mph in most places.

To help the public prepare for the high winds, Britain's official weather forecasters have issued a yellow alert, meaning 'be aware'.

They're expecting:

  • Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • There may be some fallen trees, and damage to temporary outdoor structures, e.g. marquees
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are expected
  • Some bus services may take longer
  • Delays are anticipated for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes.

The weather animation, above, was prepared from data predictions by Deutsche Wetterdienst, based on data collected at 6am today, Thursday.
