Students at Brighton University are staging a sit-in protest following the announcement that at least 100 academic staff are set to lose their jobs.
The students, who say they are the University of Brighton Solidarity Group, barricaded themselves inside the University's vice chancellor's office in the Cockcroft building in Moulescoomb this afternoon.
It's after the news that 110 academic staff would be likely to lose their jobs in a mass restructuring that they say is due to “generationally high” levels of inflation.
The group has said it will continue to occupy the management floor until its demand for stopping all redundancies is met.
In a message taped on the door, they state that the protest is a peaceful one and that they do not intend to damage anything in the building.
More to follow.
