Welcome To Fright-On: Station Announcements With A Twist Surprise Travellers At Brighton Station

Commuters at Brighton train station have been given a Halloween treat this morning (Thursday October 31).

Special announcements have featured iconic voices from classic sci-fi films.

The temporary voiceovers are in place all day to mark Halloween, with spooky announcements recorded by actor and comedian, Luke Kempner, who is well known on social media for his range of impressions.

Those travelling today should listen out for the following one-off announcements and see if they can guess which movie characters they mimic:

  • "Happy Halloween, fellow travellers... At Frighton station, you are! Avoid a fright this Hallow’s eve, by checking the Southern and Thameslink websites for up-to-date travel advice."
  • "Those travelling from Frighton station this Halloween SHALL NOT PASS without a valid ticket.
  • "Halloween again, how predictable. Please do not leave baggage unattended at Frighton station. People might think you’re…. up to something."

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) is also bringing back ‘Frighton’ to destination boards today, following its popular introduction last year.

Travellers should look out for the spooky surprise on customer information screens across the network, from Eastbourne and Littlehampton on the South Coast, to Gatwick Airport, London and Bedford.

Stephen MacCallaugh, Head of Stations at Govia Thameslink Railway, said:

“We saw great interaction last year when we renamed some of our train stations especially for Halloween.

"‘Frighton’ was popular amongst ,customers, so we’ve decided to bring it to destination boards again, with the addition of spook-tacular special announcements at Brighton station.

"If you spot our station name change, or hear one of our Halloween voiceovers, then get in touch via the Southern or Thameslink social channels so we can share your posts. Happy Halloween!”

Luke Kempner, commented:

“It’s no surprise I love an impression, so bringing these announcements to life and turning heads for Halloween was a no-brainer.

"Whether its people commuting for work or heading out trick-or-treating this Halloween, I hope these impressions provide everyone with a fun, spooky surprise!”
