Dog Owners Urged To Prepare For Fireworks Season

Dog owners across Sussex are being encouraged to prepare for fireworks season, as fireworks go on sale legally to the public from today (15 October).
Dogs Trust Shoreham says planning ahead can help keep pets safe and reduce their stress during celebrations including Halloween, Bonfire Night and Diwali.
The charity's latest National Dog Survey found 29% of dog owners reported their pets had experienced sensitivity to fireworks or other loud noises in the previous 12 months.
Dogs Trust recommends walking and feeding dogs before dark, then keeping them indoors with curtains closed and the television or music on to help mask sudden bangs.
Owners are also advised to create a quiet, comfortable place where their dog can retreat, ensure doors, windows and garden fences are secure, and avoid leaving pets alone if they become distressed.
The charity has also developed a Sound Blanket, a collection of sounds designed to help mask fireworks noise.
Dogs showing signs of significant fear should be assessed by a vet, as medication may help some animals cope.
Marc Carroll, manager of Dogs Trust Shoreham Rehoming Centre, said every dog responds differently, with some seeking comfort from their owners and others preferring to hide away.
He encouraged owners to follow their dog's lead and seek advice if they struggle during fireworks displays.
Dogs Trust also offers support through its Behaviour Services, with further advice available on its fireworks guidance page.

As a dog owner and gamer, I see parallels between preparing pets for fireworks and overcoming challenges in Granny 2. Both require patience, strategy, and understanding our companions' needs. Thank you for raising awareness!
