Abused Brighton Kitten Finds Loving New Home With Best Friend Flash

A kitten who suffered serious injuries at the hands of her owner is now thriving in a loving new home in Sussex — alongside her best friend, a Labrador called Flash.

Luna was just four months old when she was rescued from a property in Brighton in July 2024, after a concerned neighbour raised concerns about her welfare.

The RSPCA took her for urgent veterinary treatment after she was found with a suspected fractured skull.

Vets also discovered she had suffered multiple other injuries, including a head tilt caused by trauma and a fractured tail.

The charity said the injuries were consistent with physical abuse.

In the month before Luna was rescued, her owner told the RSPCA she had fallen from a fridge, leaving her gasping for breath and with bloodshot eyes.

However, he failed to take her to a scheduled veterinary appointment.

Four days later, he claimed Luna had been trodden on, leaving her with weakness in her hind legs.

A vet found spinal soreness and an ulcer on her left eye which could not be explained by the incident.

RSPCA officer Charlotte Baumann, who has worked for the charity for 29 years, described Luna's case as one of the worst she had encountered.

She said the treatment of the kitten was "totally unacceptable".

The man was later prosecuted for animal welfare offences.

Luna was placed into the care of the RSPCA Brighton and Sussex Branch, where she began her recovery.

Branch manager Jenny Eden said she was "delighted" with the transformation.

Luna's foster carer, Abbie Williams, eventually decided to adopt her.

She now lives happily in her new home with her best friend — Flash the Labrador.

Abbie said she was delighted to have helped Luna and to rehabilitate cats in need of a second chance.
