Water Releases From Ardingly Reservoir To Be Reduced Amid Severe Drought

South East Water is to reduce the amount of water released from Ardingly Reservoir into the River Ouse to protect drinking water supplies.
The reservoir is just 17.1% full following the driest April to September in more than a century, prompting the Environment Agency to declare a severe drought in parts of Sussex.
The water company says releases will be reduced gradually, with river levels monitored to limit environmental damage and maintain minimum flows downstream of Barcombe Water Treatment Works.
The Environment Agency says it is stepping up its oversight in response to drought conditions not experienced for decades, and South East Water must act immediately if the changes harm the environment.
