Burgess Hill Youth has celebrated 15 years of supporting young carers with a special anniversary party — marking a decade and a half of fun days, trips, and much-needed respite for local children.

The event, held on 28 October and supported by Burgess Hill Town Council, saw young carers enjoy party games, cake, and a lively science show by “Lava Leigh,” complete with giant bubbles and volcanic eruptions.

Since launching in 2010, the sessions have given hundreds of children caring for family members a welcome break, offering activities from crafts to pizza making, and trips to pantomimes and outdoor adventure centres.

Local businesses and community groups — including The Mustard Seed Café, Burgess Hill Lions, and Rotary — have been key supporters over the years, helping to provide lunches, outings, and funding.

Jackie Cooper, chair of Burgess Hill Youth, said the sessions offer “fun and enjoyable experiences” to young people who “carry on without complaint or expecting any reward.”

Town Mayor Stuart Condie praised the group for its “much-valued partnership” and for recognising the vital role young carers play in the community.
