A British couple from East Sussex are set to appear in court in Iran on Saturday, over eight months after being detained while on a motorcycle trip around the world.

Lindsay and Craig Foreman were arrested by Iranian authorities in January and later charged with espionage, allegations the family strongly denies.

Their detention has drawn concern from UK government officials, who continue to press Iranian authorities on the case and are providing consular assistance.

The couple’s family says they are enduring harsh conditions and repeated human rights violations while in custody.

Their son has described their situation as extremely difficult, with limited access to support.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has long advised against travel to Iran for British and British-Iranian nationals, citing a significant risk of detention.

Family members have also shared that a letter, signed by 35 MPs and members of the all-parliamentary group on arbitrary detention and hostage affairs, has been sent to the Foreign Secretary to raise awareness of the couple’s case.
