Eastbourne Pier has been evacuated after a fire broke out on Sunday morning.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 10:24 on 30th August, with six crews and an aerial ladder platform sent to the scene.

The fire service confirmed the pier had been fully evacuated while crews worked to stop the blaze spreading to other parts of the structure.

Gas and electricity supplies were isolated and police were also requested to attend.

Smoke was reported coming from the front section of the pier, with the public asked to avoid the area while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Marine Parade was partially blocked and nearby properties were advised to keep doors and windows closed.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
