'Far-Right' Protest And Counter-Demonstration Planned For Brighton

A 'far-right' protest and opposing counter-demonstration are set to take place in Brighton later this month.

White Vanguard has announced plans to gather at Brighton Palace Pier at 1pm on Saturday, August 22, before marching to Brighton Town Hall.

The group said the demonstration is being held in response to three reported sexual attacks in the city during the previous week.

Stand Up To Racism has announced a counter-protest from 11.30am on the same day.

The planned demonstrations follow a series of separate police investigations in Brighton.

On August 5, officers cordoned off part of the beach near the i360 following a reported rape. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.

In a separate case, Hany Mohamed, 37, of no fixed address, has been charged with rape and common assault after a woman in her 30s reported being attacked at a flat in High Street.

Akiyas Jameldeen, 51, from Crawley, has also been charged with two counts of oral rape and one count of sexual assault by penetration in connection with an alleged attack at Black Rock beach.

Both demonstrations are currently expected to take place in central Brighton on August 22.
