Water supplies have been restored to almost 1,800 properties across Surrey, East Sussex and Kent after a burst main caused widespread disruption over the weekend.

South East Water said customers in Colemans Hatch and Hartfield began experiencing issues on Saturday morning, with further problems reported in Aylesford later that evening and in Camberley on Sunday.

At its peak, around 1,600 homes in Aylesford were affected, along with more than 100 in East Sussex and dozens in Surrey.

Engineers carried out repairs throughout the weekend, but the situation was complicated when the main burst again after initial work had been completed.

By late Sunday afternoon, the company confirmed that supplies had been restored to all affected customers.

A spokesperson said the incident involved a “complex” repair, with additional complications causing temporary further loss of supply in some areas before the issue was fully resolved.

The disruption follows previous problems earlier this year, when tens of thousands of customers across Kent and Sussex were left without water or experienced low pressure.
