Attempted Theft Of Church Money Box Near Uckfield

The attempted theft of a church money box near Uckfield has prompted a police appeal.

Police are investigating after a male suspect reportedly wearing a baker boy “Peaky Blinders” style hat entered St Mary’s Church in Fletching.

Police say it happened at around 10:30am on Friday, June (25).

Witnesses saw the suspect leaving the church, and reported damage had been caused inside.

An attempt had been made to gain access to the contents of the money box.

The suspect was later seen walking to a car nearby and was believed to have been carrying something.

He is described as a white man in his 40s who was dressed in all black, with a black face covering.

Police say he is of slim to medium build and between 5’11” and 6’ in height.
