Bexhill Man Sentenced For Threats To Kill, Possession Of A Knife

A man who tried to attack complete strangers in a Bexhill street while armed with a knife, has been sentenced.

In November of 2019, Darren Rogers, 45, a scaffolder, of Plough Road, Eastchurch in Kent, was witnessed running along Cantelupe Road in Bexhill, wielding a knife.

He approached a man and his sister-in-law, who were attempting to jump start a van, who then locked themselves in their vehicles while Rogers banged on the windows, striking them with the knife and shouting threats.

The man distracted Rogers by driving slowly away causing Rogers to follow him, leaving another victim terrified in the street.

Police caught up with him in nearby Bedford Avenue where he was arrested.

He was convicted in July of making threats to kill and possession of a knife and on September 29th, he was sentenced to two-and-a-half-years at Lewes Crown Court.

Rogers had previously served a seven-year sentence for manslaughter after stabbing his ex-partner to death in Kent in October 1999.

Detective Constable Nick Arthur of East Sussex CID said:

"This sudden and violent attack was a traumatic experience for both victims and for at least one bystander, who gave valuable evidence.

"It was clear that Rogers was totally out of control at that point, and it is very fortunate that nobody was seriously hurt."
