Brighton & Hove CityClean Strike: Update Day 11

Workers for CityClean who have been striking for the past 11 days, will meet with the council this morning to try to find a resolution.

Meanwhile, labour councillors have written to the Leader of the Conservative Group to call on Conservative Councillor Joe Miller to resign.

During a meeting at the town hall on Wednesday, Cllr Miller described GMB members as "terrorists" and accused them of blackmail, as well as comparing their strike action to 'piracy'.

In a letter signed by five Labour Group councillors, they said they were "shocked" to hear council employees described in that way and, because Cllr Miller has refused to apologise for his comments, they are calling for his immediate resignation.

In the letter, The Labour Group highlighted that the GMB members are council staff and should be respected.

They added that such comments had undermined the efforts to resolve the bin strike and they were grateful to Cllr Mac Cafferty for condemning his words.

In response to Cllr Miller's comments the GMB said they would not go back to the negotiating table without an apology.

Updates to come.
