East Sussex Company Wins At British Pie Awards

Christian Barrington of Mud Foods

Pie company Mud Foods, in Midhurst, won two awards at the British Pie Awards 2021 last week.

As well as winning Class Champion in the Speciality Meat and Game Pie and Fish and Chip Shop categories, they also picked up Highly Commended (2nd in category) for their Pulled Pork in Sticky BBQ Sauce Pie and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for their other pies.

The British Pie Awards attracts pie producers large and small from across the land and is hotly contested.

The event is judged in Britain's pie capital, Melton Mowbray, and this year 813 pies were entered in 23 categories.

With a team of 12, Mud uses local suppliers and sources most of their meat from the Goodwood Estate.

They also say that their pastry is made using the traditional method - not the fast way, with additives.

Christian Barrington, Mud's Founder and Chief Pie Maker, said:

"We have won Class Champion before but we've never won two trophies in one go!  I'm chuffed to bits and very proud of my team.

"We constantly strive for perfection and to get this sort of national recognition at the British Pie Awards makes it all worthwhile - it's the rubber stamp of approval."
