Stabbing in Eastbourne: Man Hospitalized, Another Injured

Police are searching for suspects after a pair of attacks in central Eastbourne on Saturday evening (April 10), that left one man in hospital with a stab wound, and another with an injury to his arm.

Officers said they attended The Beacon just after 8.30pm, after an attacker stabbed a man in his stomach.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

An area search for the suspects, who police say are believed to be known to the victim, is ongoing and there will be an increased policing presence in the area.

Shortly after, police received a second report of an assault in Terminus Road.

A man suffered a wound to his arm.

As a result, for a time police last night invoked a power enabling them to stop and search anyone in Eastbourne Town Centre, without any need for suspicion they are involved in an offence.

Officers said that the power, a "Section 60 Order" (referring to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994) was due to expire at 2.55am this morning, Sunday.

Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw said:

“We have stepped up patrols in the area this evening following the assaults in the town centre.

“We are really keen to hear from anyone who has information on either matter.

"No matter how small that piece of information might be, please get in contact with us.

Police are appealing for information to be submitted either on line, or by telephone to 101 quoting serial 1228 of 10/04.
