A section of the A23 remains closed this morning following a serious multi-vehicle crash near Albourne.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway at around 10:15 last night, after a collision involving two cars and a lorry.

Several people were taken to hospital, including a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, both from East Grinstead, along with another 19-year-old man from Copthorne.

A 46-year-old woman from Horsham, who was driving a separate vehicle, was also injured. The lorry driver, a 57-year-old man from Swindon, was not hurt.

The road is currently closed between Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common while barrier repairs and a major clean-up operation take place.

National Highways says the route is unlikely to reopen until later today at the earliest.

Drivers are being warned to expect disruption, with no official diversion in place and traffic being redirected along local roads.

Sussex Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch.
