A man has been charged with murder after a 37-year-old was stabbed to death and another man seriously injured in Brighton.

Tio Day, 37, was fatally stabbed at a property in Regency Square at around 2.10am on Sunday morning.

A second man, in his 30s, was also injured in the incident and taken to hospital with stab wounds.

Sussex Police said Daniel Bassett, 26, of no fixed address, was arrested in connection with the incident.

He has since been charged with murder and attempted murder and has been remanded in custody to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays, from Sussex Police, said officers’ thoughts are with Tio Day’s family and friends during what he described as a very difficult time.

He added that tragic incidents like this have “significant consequences”, leaving families grieving and affecting the wider community.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
