Man Dies After Getting Into Difficulty In Sea At Camber Sands

A man has died after getting into difficulty in the sea at Camber Sands.

Sussex Police were called to the East Sussex beach shortly before 7pm on Sunday, following reports that three people were in difficulty in the water.

An 18-year-old man was brought ashore around half an hour later. Paramedics treated him, but he was pronounced dead a short time afterwards. His next of kin have been informed.

The two other people involved — a 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man — were able to make it safely back to shore.

Police say the three were known to each other and had travelled from London.

The Coastguard, Pett Level lifeboat and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended.

Emergency services remain in the area and there is currently an increased police presence while inquiries continue.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, which will now be referred to the coroner.

It comes after another man died following an incident in the sea off Hove Beach last Tuesday.

The 58-year-old was recovered from the water but later died.
