Railway Line Reopens After East Sussex Train Derailment

A railway line in East Sussex has reopened following extensive repairs after a train derailment left 30 people injured.

The route between Haywards Heath and Lewes was closed following the incident on 13 August, which involved a Southern service travelling from London Victoria to Eastbourne.

Engineers have now recovered all eight carriages and rebuilt the damaged section of railway.

Network Rail says the work included removing damaged track, repairing the embankment, installing new track and signalling equipment, and carrying out engineering inspections, safety checks and test runs.

The eight-carriage train was travelling at around 65mph when it derailed, with all 150 passengers evacuated.

Around 30 people were injured and treated at the scene, with two suffering serious injuries.

Southern is advising passengers to check their journey before travelling.
