The three women had been living together in London and were described as leading very private and secluded lives.

A coroner has ruled that three sisters who drowned in the sea off Brighton took their own lives.

Jane Adetoro, aged 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, had been living together in Greenford, London.

They travelled to Birmingham on 11 May, visiting an area close to where their mother drowned in 2010, before travelling to Brighton the following day.

The sisters arrived at the seafront by taxi shortly after 10.20pm on 12 May and were last seen alive at around 2.40am the next morning.

Their bodies were later recovered from the sea in difficult conditions.

The coroner, Penelope Schofield, said the sisters lived "very secluded lives" and were "incredibly private".

She said there was no way of knowing why they chose to take their own lives or why they travelled to Brighton.

The inquest heard Christina had experienced anxiety and depression since their mother's death.

Police also found 227 references to water and 179 references to suicide when they searched her laptop.

Toxicology tests found no drugs or alcohol in any of the sisters' systems, and there was no evidence they had been subjected to violence.

Their father, Joseph Jacobsen, said losing all three of his daughters was a heartbreak beyond anything he could have imagined.
