An armed man has stolen cash from a bookmaker in one of Hove's main shopping streets.

According to police, a suspect used a knife to threaten a member of staff at the Bet Fred in George Street at around 7.25am on Saturday (18 September) before making off with money.

Officers said the man stole a "large quantity" after demanding the worker open the shop's safe.

Investigators described the suspect as white, 5'11" tall and aged about 60.

He was wearing a mask, a black Russian-style 'Ushanka' furry hat with ear flaps, a black jacket, and gloves.

Before leaving the premises, the suspect locked the member of staff in a lavatory.

Officers described the worker as being "shaken and shocked" by the incident.
