A man has carried out a sexual attack on a woman who was walking home through the Kemp Town area of Brighton in the early hours of Saturday morning (September 11).

According to police, the assault took place at about 3.45am, after the 39-year-old victim was followed a short way along Edward Street.

A man then approached her from behind, before he committed the sex attack in Montague Place.

She screamed, and the offender ran off into College Place.

Officers described the suspect as white, medium build, about 6’, clean shaven, wearing a red hooded top and jeans and carrying a paper bag of some sort.

On Sunday, police said the victim was being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Inspector Andy Standing added:

“This is a serious though isolated incident, and anyone who was in the area at around that time and who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact us either online or by calling 101, quoting serial 231 of 11/09.”
