Brighton Man Jailed For Sexual Assault Of A Minor

A Brighton man has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a young girl six years ago, during a retrial at Lewes Crown Court.

The victim, who was under 13 at the time, testified in court for the first time in November 2020 and again on August 27th.

She was joined by other witnesses giving evidence.

34-year-old Jason Lineker of Mouslecoomb Way in Brighton was found guilty by a unanimous jury following a five-day trial.

He was jailed for four and a half years last Friday, September 3.

He'll also serve a year on prison licence and be a registered sex offender for life. He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to last until further court order, severely restricting his access to children.

Detective Constable Angela Harvey of the Brighton Safeguarding Investigations Unit said:

"The victim, a young child, was very brave, having to give evidence in two trials as a result of the hung jury outcome in November 2020”
