Call For Justice After Young Woman's Body Found On Bexhill Beach

A fundraising page has been set up calling for justice after a young woman's body was discovered in Bexhill last month.

Police said the body of 21-year-old Blessing Olusegun, of Middle Park Avenue, SE9, was found lying on the beach at Bexhill near Galley Hill.

The discovery was reportedly made at around 6.20am on September 18.

A GoFundMe page set up by Christiana Sofolabo on behalf of Esther Oluremi Abe says Blessing was in Bexhill-on-Sea on a week long placement, working as a live-in carer "for the elderly who suffer from demtia and other mental and physical health issues."

It also claims Blessing had asked the the last person she spoke to stay on the phone while she went for a walk on the beach.

On the morning of September 18 a close family friend was reportedly alerted that she had gone missing.

The organiser also alleges that Sussex Police had found her mobile phone and slippers a couple of metres away from her body.

Sussex Police said Blessing's death is being treated as unexplained, but further forensic tests are being carried out to establish the cause of death.

The GoFundMe campaign is reportedly to raise funds for Blessing's burial, as well as a call to make CCTV cameras more available on the beach.

It also alleges that the 21-year-old was murdered and Sussex Police are not doing enough to investigate.

A spokesperson from Sussex Police said:

"At 6.20am on Friday 18 September the body of a woman was found lying on the beach at Bexhill near Galley Hill.

"The body was identified as that of Blessing Olusegun, 21, of Middle Park Avenue, London SE9.

"Police have been investigating the circumstances and the death is being treated as unexplained though not suspicious at this stage.

"A postmortem took place on 24 September and further forensic tests are being carried out in order for the cause of death to be established.

"Police enquiries are continuing in liaison with the Coroners Officer."
