Miles For Mind

Two Sussex health clubs are teaming up to host a special walk to raise money for the mental health charity.

Anytime Fitness branches in Eastbourne and Uckfield are inviting people to take part in Miles for MIND - a 16 mile walk from Polegate to Lewes.

It's happening this Saturday, September 11 and will begin at the Horse and Groom Harvester in Polegate at 9am for a 9.30am start, finishing in Lewes at The Snowdrop pub.

To take part, the clubs are asking for a £10 donation which will all go directly to Mind, participants can drop off the cash in person at either club or donate online at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/milesformindseptember2021.

The walk will take in stunning scenic views across the Sussex countryside, with stop-offs along the way for breaks and refreshments.

Christopher, Club Manager at Anytime Fitness Eastbourne, said:

"We can't wait for our second Miles for Mind event next month and are looking forward to seeing both new and familiar faces."

"Mind is a cause particularly close to the hearts of members across both clubs, with many using exercise to improve their mental health and overcome challenges.

"After the year-and-a-half we've all had, the day will be a great way for everyone to catch up in the fresh air and enjoy the stunning views that our countryside has to offer, all in the name of a very worthy cause."

The route will head straight up onto the South Downs into the town of Alfriston, before hiking up the South Downs again with beautiful views of Sussex.

The route will then see a hike across to Firle Beacon before a descent into the village of Firle, The latter stages of the walk carry onto Glynde where walkers will encounter the final hill(s), Mount Caburn, providing stunning views of Lewes where the route finishes and people have the chance to enjoy well-earned drinks and food.

Christopher added:

"The walk is open and accessible to everyone and we go at a comfortable pace to ensure everyone is able to enjoy it."

"We've teamed up with some local businesses who will provide discounted drinks for our walkers at our stop-off points along the route."

Over 35 people have already registered for the walk and all walkers are encouraged to wear comfy walking shoes and pack a bag with any additional clothing they may need, dependant on the weather forecast on the day.
