Birling Gap beach is set to reopen a week earlier than planned after repair works on the cliffside staircase were completed ahead of schedule.

The staircase, which connects the car park to the beach, has been out of use for around two months following recent cliff falls that caused significant damage.

The National Trust says the sandy conditions are not a regular feature at Birling Gap and is encouraging people to enjoy the rare sight while it lasts.

Visitors are being urged to stay away from parts of the Sussex coastline as Storm Goretti brings dangerous conditions to the area.
