Amber Heat Health Alert Issued Across Sussex As Temperatures Set To Soar

An amber heat-health alert has been issued across Sussex as forecasters warn temperatures could climb into the mid-30s this week.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has upgraded its warning for South East England from yellow to amber, with the alert in force from 9am on Tuesday until 9am on Thursday.
The amber alert means hot weather is expected to have wider impacts across the population, with increased health risks and potential disruption to essential services.
Alongside Sussex, the warning also covers Kent, Surrey, London, the East of England and the East Midlands.
The UKHSA says the heat could lead to greater demand on NHS services, including GP practices and ambulance crews, while travel disruption is also possible.
The agency has also warned of an increased risk of water-related incidents, urging people to take extra care if swimming in the sea, rivers or other open water.
The alert comes as prolonged dry conditions continue across much of southern, central and eastern England, with some areas edging closer to drought status after missing out on significant rainfall in recent weeks.
Dry ground and low soil moisture levels are increasing concerns for water supplies, agriculture and the risk of wildfires.
Surrey and Sussex have both experienced several wildfires in recent weeks, while Kent Fire and Rescue Service says it has responded to more than 300 accidental grass fires since the beginning of May.
Nick Scott, from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said grass fires can have "devastating consequences", including harming wildlife, destroying property and putting lives at risk.
People are being encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid the hottest part of the day where possible, check on vulnerable friends, relatives and neighbours, and take extra care when outdoors as temperatures continue to rise.
