A man has been jailed for 3 years and 9 months after admitting to a burglary at a home in Lewes.

Jon Healey, 45, forced entry to a residential property and stole jewellery while the homeowner was away on holiday.

He was arrested on 9 May after officers located him attempting to hide inside a bedroom wardrobe.

Healey, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on 8 June to three years and nine months’ imprisonment.

Detective Sergeant Jake O’Reilly, of the East Sussex Burglary Team, said:

“Burglary is a deeply intrusive crime that can have a lasting emotional and financial impact on victims.
“Thanks to the swift work of officers and investigators, Healey was identified, arrested and brought before the courts.
“We remain committed to pursuing those who commit burglary and ensuring they are held accountable for their actions.”
