A sexual assault case against a Sussex Police officer has been discontinued after prosecutors offered no evidence at court.
PC Mark McCann, who was based at Gatwick, had been charged with sexually assaulting by touching a woman known to him while off duty in July 2024.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence at a hearing at Portsmouth Crown Court.
PC McCann remains suspended from duty while Sussex Police considers misconduct proceedings.

It’s important that allegations involving police officers are handled fairly and transparently, with the evidence carefully considered throughout the process. Although the criminal case has been discontinued, the planned misconduct review shows why accountability and due process both matter.
