Plans to build a Tesla supercharging facility in Chichester have been approved by the district council.

The application, from Tesla Motors Ltd, for space at the Chichester Trade Centre, in Quarry Lane, was given the nod by planning officers.

The facility will include 14 Tesla superchargers and two substations.

A statement submitted with the application said:

“The development represents strategic investment in local charging infrastructure and forms part of Tesla’s wider nationwide roll-out of rapid, reliable EV charging provision.
“Clear demand exists for publicly accessible electric vehicle charging services which will assist in the delivery of a widespread public charging network, particularly for people who travel long distances, or who do not have access to charging points either at home or at work.”
