Horsham Museum To Close For Four Months For Roof Repairs

Horsham Museum and Art Gallery is set to close for four months while essential repairs are carried out on its roof.

The West Sussex museum will close from 7 September until 5 January to allow specialist contractors to repair sections of deteriorated stonework.

As a Grade II listed building, Horsham District Council says specialist conservation work is required and can only be completed while the museum is closed.

The council's Deputy Leader Mark Baynham said the repairs are vital to protect visitors, staff, collections and the historic building.

Three galleries will also be refurbished during the closure as part of a wider programme of improvements.

Visitors returning in the new year will find a new costume gallery and a refreshed Age of Discovery gallery, featuring stories from Horsham during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Baynham said the council hoped visitors would understand the need for the work and looked forward to welcoming them back with a programme of exhibitions and activities.
