Ifield railway station in Crawley has the highest rate of train cancellations in the country, according to new figures reported by the BBC.

The report, published by BBC Sussex, says that between August 2023 and August 2024, 10.4% of trains failed to stop as scheduled at the West Sussex station.

Nearby Gatwick Airport was also among the worst affected – ranking sixth on the list of Britain’s busiest stations with 5.8% of services cancelled.

Thameslink and Network Rail admitted services have not been reliable enough.

Speaking to the BBC, Emma Pickard, network operations and performance director, said work is under way to tackle issues including signalling and power supply faults, staff shortages, and weather resilience.
